Guts and Glory

YES. That there is the back half of a rat. My loving cross-eyed cat displayed that business all over my driveway this afternoon. I know she does it to show affection but y'all know my issues with animals and well, varmint butts just ain't my love language.

Faith and Ethan ran a 5K on New Year's Eve at midnight. They were all into it, and trained together (if you call four runs, two of which ended in fights, training) and had a blast doing it. They both kinda caught the bug and want to run more races in the future. I was so proud of them. Harris stood on the sidelines, gripping his hot chocolate and repeating the phrase,"My hands are transforming into ice cubes!" about a hundred times. This was his version of cheering them on. His face in the below photo pretty much sums it up.

I really love those guys' guts! (Just thought I'd bring this post full circle.)

The rat butt is freaking disgusting and yet so funny. Your kids are just awesome. Great post.

Gross gross gross to the first picture. Too cool that your kids ran the race. My boys wanted to but both of their parents are pretty lame and wouldn't stay up that late.

What a great post! I loved the rat butt! We had a cat in California (who came with the house) that was a mouser and left us piles of nasty dead animals all the time. Then when you came outside, she would nudge them to you, like she was trying to feed us! I mean, GROSS. SHe really needed some kittens.

ALso, congrats to your kiddies! That's amazing! And I loved the shot of Harris! I bet it WAS cold if you weren't running.

So awesome. A half rat is certainly better than a whole rat.

And how cool is it that your kids ran the 5k. Cheering was super fun and yes, I agree with Harris, it was FREEZING.

Looks like Spaz has some of her mother in her. I totally understand. In the summertime our cat will kill a whole bunch of animals and just line them up in a neat little row for us. At least your cat doesn't catch them and bring them inside and then kill them like sunny prefers to do. Nothing like walking into a room and finding the family pet biting the head off a still breathing squirrel.

Also, a new years mid night run sounds fantastic! Your kids are awesome!!

Good job Ethan and Faith! I really could have done without that picture. You should get rid of that nasty cross-eyed feline.

Glad your kids caught the amazing spirit of running that you gave to me as well! :) (Someday I will run a marathon...this year will have to be a half marathon I think...) I just can't get over how beautiful you look! You are amazing! And I love love love the Boise State sweater than Ethan is sporting! ha Just can't get enough of Idaho! :)

I think this blog post entered my dreams last night...I was serving another mission, this time on some tropical island, and we had dead rats all over our yard and in our kitchen. My companion said you have to buy all your food and eat it one day and never keep anything in the kitchen or the rats will get worse...
