Taking Stock

I realize I use this blog as a journal and most of my journals end up filled with lists of to-do's and have-done's so this is turning out to be no different. This is kinda boring so I apologize. I gotta review the craziness of lately.

I finished that gosh-foraken re-charter. Scouts has got to be the refiner's fire of callings...and this is just Cubs, people! (And don't tell the Bishop or EQ president I said that.) Pack meeting is checked off the list. It was perhaps not a success (I can never tell and don't wish to think about it for even half a second once it is over) but it's the best I got and will have to do.

Ethan's sprained ankle seems to be healing. So yay for the fact that this isn't gonna be that one time I don't take him in to the doctor and he has to hobble around on a broken ankle til' my mom or somebody intervenes! His science project has also been turned in. Faith's is due in a few more days. Harris is going through a phase where he cries about absolutely everything. I. mean. everything. I worry cuz for Spring Break my mom wants to take him and Luke to Alabama with her to visit family and I think a super-cry-y kid is a real buzz-kill. We shall see.

I am so glad today is over. I will be having at least of one each of the following tomorrow:

A nap

A twinkie

A true-crime-a-thon

Goodnight peeps.

Oh, let me dig up a picture. Oh yes, here we are.

Proof you have ADD:

Instead of working on the room you and your spouse have designated as the current room being "fixed up", you are painting quotes above your fireplace in the middle of the night.

Well, the main reason for this little detour on our home improvements is that Jared is out of town and he would kill me for trying to do this...he painted that brick with about a million coats as per my request. He had wanted to put slate over it and I protested. So now he will just love love love to see this little surprise when he gets home from Detroit on Sunday night.

FYI:

I found this quote on Etsy (it was vinyl stick-on letters) and thought it would go perfect with my sailboat pics I got at the thrift store for $4.00 each. But I didn't want to pay the $35.oo plus shipping to buy it so I printed the quote and painted right on the brick with cheap, black craft paint. Jared should love my thrifty-nis, but he's still gonna kill me.

Go in Peace??

Harris just said the blessing on the food at lunch. In the prayer he said,"and please bless Martin Luther King Jr., that he will have his birthday on Monday, and that he will go in peace."

The Office

In our neverending quest to fix up the house, we often differ (me and J) on what project should get our attention next. We both agree, for once. It is the office. We already have the wall treatment which is a plaster kind of business with gold paint and glaze all over it. Jared did all that without my consent or permission, and while it's not really my style, I'm fine with it and am grateful for all of the work he put into it. Now we are setting out to build a desk. When I say "we" I mean Jared. My contribution is keeping all distractions out of his hair which is harder than it sounds. I'll post updates...which won't be hard since these things take us a long time. We are the Pabsts. We've never been accused of being timely.

To the Girl of the World

Happy Birthday! Twelve years ago today, you changed my life forever. I've loved you with my whole heart ever since. Thanks for letting me be your mom, and learn from you every day.

Guts and Glory

YES. That there is the back half of a rat. My loving cross-eyed cat displayed that business all over my driveway this afternoon. I know she does it to show affection but y'all know my issues with animals and well, varmint butts just ain't my love language.

Faith and Ethan ran a 5K on New Year's Eve at midnight. They were all into it, and trained together (if you call four runs, two of which ended in fights, training) and had a blast doing it. They both kinda caught the bug and want to run more races in the future. I was so proud of them. Harris stood on the sidelines, gripping his hot chocolate and repeating the phrase,"My hands are transforming into ice cubes!" about a hundred times. This was his version of cheering them on. His face in the below photo pretty much sums it up.

I really love those guys' guts! (Just thought I'd bring this post full circle.)
