So I decided my kids need to do WAY more chores! Up until now, I've let them do a whole lot of cleaning things that are already clean so I don't have to relinquish control and actually let them make some mistakes.
My wake-up call came when I overheard Madison trying to teach Faith to do dishes at her house, and Faith spent the whole time saying, "Eww! I can't believe you touch other people's food!" Okay, you're spoiled! And it's totally my fault!
But, I'm proud to report that Faith did a whole load of dishes after dinner tonight! She put away the food (yes, other people's food!) AND wiped off the counters! Yay for her! Yay for me for easing up a little on my OCD! Next up? Laundrey!

Hey, that's how I feel when I do dishes! I still hate touching other people's food! Actually, I hate most things related to cooking.
I swear I should have been a Grover girl! I can relate to so much of what you and Jen and Sarah write about. You need one more sister, right?!
You wrote that "e" in "laundry" on purpose! Now you're just goading Sarah.
Wow. I guess I have tunnel vision with my tiny kiddos. I can't even imagine a time when my kids could actually be helpful!! Seriously though, Eli has already tried to do dishes--he tries to load his dirty ones in the dishwasher! It's funny!

Dishes are the only chore I still have not reliquished. I just worry that they won't get them clean enough. I have the stupidest dishwasher and already know that it barely cleans the dishes. I don't want to worry about how they were put in there, too. I guess I really should teach my kids to do dishes. Maybe I could have Faith come over and teach them!
Good for you and Faith! Sometimes it is hard to relinquish those jobs. I have gone back and forth over some jobs and the dishes are one of them. My problem is the fact that the kids put it off too long...and looking at them sitting there drives me nuts and I will finally cave and do it. I think the kids know this and that is what bothers James he doesn't want me to give in.. my downfall :(
I am SO proud of you! Your life just got easier!! (well...it will be harder for a while as you have to "check" all of Faith's work to be sure it is done right...but then it will be easier!) Last night we came up with a family chore chart! I am so proud of us!! I will have to tell you about it. Even Zach and Gav's have jobs to do!
The "e" in laundry was unintentional, and yet, so funny, so I will leave it. I may just drive Searah batty!
Chores are just part of contributing to a family. Faith will thank you when she is a capable college student ready to face the world and kick some tail because her parents prepared her to work hard. Go Team Pabst!
Told you so. Oh wait, my kids don't have chores. I'm glad we didn't take you to Petrosky that day we went back. You have the shirt, but I have the smell.
My sister Shelly never cleans her kitchen. She says the job belongs to her six boys. Of course she does have to make sure they get it done, but it's the principle. I agree with Court. These are life skills. Good for you.
