Tonight was an ordinary night. Dinner without Jared who was working late, chores with grumbles, Family Night with eye rolls, showers with wet floors, prayers with bums in the air (I hate that!) and one other thing. Harris read a book to me. But instead of the usual fussing, followed by a lot of, "I can't read!"s, followed by a lot of stopping for help and subsequent frustration, Harris read, with little help and a huge smile on his face, a book that was pretty hard if I do say so myself! He did SUCH a good job and read just like an old pro. Just like he walks and talks like an old pro. It brought tears to my eyes and made me think of how at three years old, when I sent him to Preschool For Children With Disabilities, I wondered if he would ever walk or talk. He would crawl and sign and point to little pictures in a book but I truly worried and wondered if that would ever change. And boy has it! That guy runs like the wind at recess while he plays tag with his friends. And we all know he can construct a sentence that includes the wit and sarcasm of a grown man. It is miraculous to watch him meet and conquer life's challenges and he reminds me, in his own happy way, to keep chipping away at my own obstacles that lie between me and my divine destination. I will get there, just like he keeps doing.

Way to go Harris! I wish I had 1/100th of the determination that he does. Love that kid.
That kid is amazing! Everytime I see him, he brightens up my day. You are so lucky to have him daily!
I've never seen anyone work has hard as Harris. He certainly brings tears to my eyes when I see how far he has come from the beginning of each school year. Yeah, sometimes he fusses, but he has never ever EVER quit. I love him.
What a miracle - Harris is a determined little dude and it is remarkable to see all he has accomplished. I can only imagine what it would be like to see his progress through the eyes of his mother.
What an accomplishment! Harris deserves more than a pat on the back for his hard work and overcoming the obstacles he faces! Liz, keep up the good work raising great kids! You are doing a fabulous job!
I love that picture of the two of you. He's still so joyful and charismatic. :)
Wow, that brought such tears to my eyes. I loved this post. What a great kid Harris is. What a great mom you are. He was sent to you for a reason. I think Harris has an old soul. Love you guys!
did you really have to include the soundtrack? now i'm a blubbering mess...
What a heartwarming experience - one of many that you will treasure as the days, months, and years go by and you look back with nostalgia at what a miracle Harris and all of your children are.
Harris is certainly a shining example for all of us under-achievers. What a wonderful young fellow!
